Cascata Mundu & Galasia
This Trekking sentiero to the waterfalls of Mundu and Galasia begins right from the start with a steep descent into the valley far below that holds more than 7 waterfalls of varying sizes and shapes.
Not for the faint of heart, out of shape, or those afraid of heights, this trek will thrill the rest of you. But be warned it’s like riding a stair climber for about 3 hours! Ouch!
An ancient mule track, currently used for cows, zig-zags down the mountain side and winds through the valley. Witness a variety of lush mosses, ground cover, ferns, trees and an ancient plant called “Woodwardia”, a living fossil from the Tertiary era, living on the hillside and valley floor.
In a while you will arrive at the Mundu Falls after maneuvering along a narrow overhanging pathway with a wooden railing system to catch you, hopefully, should you slip. Steep, feels like the trail is almost vertical in spots, you will ascend to the water’s edge. Here you will see 3 waterfalls, with bathing pools for those so adventurous (wear your bathing suit).
Ascending is like riding a stair climber. Take your time and pause to smell the lush forest vegetation while your heart gets a rest and you cool down. At the top, the natural sunlight shining through the heavily forested canopy makes for a magical light upon the valley floor.
A brisk hike up, then a long hike down, after about 30 minutes you arrive at the immense Galasia waterfall. A large bathing pool of fresh cool mountain mineral water awaits your over heated body. Take advantage and cool off. The feel of the water due to its mineral content leaves you feeling silky smooth and clean. Enjoy the walk and climb back from the valley floor. You have earned it.
